This is my little place where I post a collection of inspiring design and news that I feel is worth sharing. See if you agree. And another thing... The work featured on this page is not my own, and some wording is pulled from other sites, (because it's written so well)

RISING SEA LEVELS AWARENESS

Posted 10 February 2012
Design by - Ogilvy Group
The eye-catching swimming pool in Mumbai, India, has been built to raise awareness about the threat of sea level rises as a result of global warming. It was constructed by attaching a giant aerial photograph of the New York City skyline to the floor of the pool. The idea was conceived by advertising agency Ogilvy & Mather, who were commissioned by banking giant HSBC to promote its £50million project tackling climate change. The Ogilvy team came up with an innovative way to show the adverse impact of global climate change. They glued an aerial view of a city to the base of a swimming pool. When the pool was filled with water, it gave a shocking effect akin to a city submerged in water. The visual of a sunken city shocked swimmers and onlookers, driving home the impact of global warming, and how it could destroy our world someday.

JACKSON GILMOUR: REBRANDING

Posted 10 December 2011
Design by - Magpie Studio
Previous / Next image (1 of 1)
Focusing on their unique offer as a chef-led catering firm - Magpie devised a brand language reminiscent of cookery books and recipes. Add a dollop of typography inspired by copper pot hallmarks, a twist of the diagramatic language of family trees, a tablespoon of very luxuriant print techniques, heat at a high temperature and enjoy.

KNIGHT FRANK: CREATIVE PRESS AD

Posted 10 December 2011
Design by - Magpie Studio
Previous / Next image (1 of 1)
Creative and strong press ad campaign for Estate Agents, Knight Frank. Knight Frank wanted to create a strong press ad campaign to put The Buying Solution front of mind. The approach was to communicate their creative problem solving through use of a tangram puzzle. Employing a model maker to create a beautiful oak brainteaser, they art directed a shoot with a range of iconic shapes used to express the many strengths and virtues of their service.

NY INTERSECTIONS FROM HIGH ABOVE

Posted 04 October 2011

Project - NY Intersection Photography
Photography by Navid Baraty

{image115
Previous / Next image (1 of 1)
Taken from high above, Baraty gives us incredible views of New York City - its historic buildings, its legion of taxis and and its very busy people.
"Watching a city from above can reveal so much about its character," he tells us. "I think that the pace of New York City is best seen from high above: the constant flow of taxis, the merging of traffic, the waves of pedestrians crossing at the change of traffic lights, and the sounds of honking horns and sirens."
Just how did Baraty take these shots? By "leaning over the edge of buildings," he says, and "by extending my arms out if necessary."
Makes me want to return to New York with my camera, and take it from a new angle to when I went my photos of New York

THE WAY RETRO SHOULD BE

Posted 04 October 2011

Project - Ducati Sport 1000
Design by Ducati designer Pierre Terblanche

Previous / Next image (1 of 1)
Ducati showing other manufacturers exactly how retro should be done.
The Sport 1000 is a café racer-style machine based on Ducati's 750 Sport, in production for five years from 1973 and selling on the success of the V-twin race bikes, the first of which was Smart's Imola machine.
Two things are striking about the 2005 version: one is the balance Ducati designer Pierre Terblanche has struck between adherence to the look of the original and modern-day performance expectations, and the second is the unprecedented attention to detail and quality of finish.
Even the tyres are Pirellis, commissioned by Ducati to mimic the look of the epochal Phantoms of the late 1970s, except these 21st-century versions come with modern sizes, construction and levels of grip. Their only quirk is to be fitted with inner tubes, necessary to allow the use of gorgeous Ceriani-style alloy-rimmed wire wheels, with stainless tapered steel spokes.

Project -Johnnie Sapong Identity
Design by Birch

Previous / Next image (1 of 1)
The internationally renowned hair stylist Johnnie Sapong came to Birch as he was planning to open his studio. Whilst working internationally for the majority of his time Johnnie decided that he needed a base for his team in London.

As much as an art gallery for conceptual experimentation, Birch developed a visual identity for The Studio with the logo and stationary. Using detailed typography, the identity works seamlessly against the ever changing background of The Studio as it is redecorated every month.

BT VISION REBRAND

Posted 04 October 2011

Project - BT Vision Rebrand
Design by ManvsMachine and Proud Creative

Previous / Next image (1 of 1)

With the identity rebrand of BT Vision in their hands, Manvs Machine and Proud produced the solution of creating a V-shaped portal that while representing the V of Vision is also a play button. This device can adapt different colours to represent the different genres of content available – and also adopt different behavioural traits in motion idents - it can float, bounce, skip and jump etc. Here are some of the idents created for the service, three of which (Bubbles, Paint, and Powder) were shot by photographer Jason Tozer:
While ManvsMachine worked on the filmed and animated idents, Proud Creative worked on the graphic design elements of BT Vision's new identity, including the logos, a typeface and colour palette for the identity.

DUCATI 1199 PANIGALE LAUNCH

Ducati 1199 Panigale

The 2012 release of the next Ducati bike is getting ever nearer, and another teaser has been released. As much as the bike itself is a beautiful machine I think that these decal lettering on the fairings are actually a piece of beauty in themselves.

MATTHEW HILTON WEBSITE

Project - Matthew Hilton Website
Design by Spin

Previous / Next image (1 of 1)
A new website for furniture designer Matthew Hilton. Taking advantage of Matthew's own photography, the design of his website is centred around a full-screen gallery. Controls are simple - keyboard navigation is also built in - and extraneous detail is kept to a minimum. The Index acts as a complete list of the site's contents and gives access to Matthew's Journal and list of stockists. The mobile version of the site gives an even more fluid experience - visitors can swipe through through the gallery, while the Index is viewed simply by rotating their phone.

Project - De La Rue Annual Report
Design by Bostock & Pollitt

Previous / Next image (1 of 1)
Working on several Annual Reports, I have seen a wide range, from the ludicrous to the plain boring. It is so important to keep a consistent balance between the professionalism of the company and the attractiveness of the design, whilst making data and figures interesting and appealing, emphasising and expressing the successful results to the audience. This is a well designed report, with a clean structure, and a visually interesting layout for the information.
